Rolex Oyster reference 6082 with a silver dial, gold Arabic numerals and Shock-Resisting text
Oyster ref. 6082, Antiquorum Geneva 2006, lot 12

The 6082 is a hand-wound steel Oyster from Rolex’s Precision range. Auction records show silver dials with several marker layouts, along with a black-and-gilt “Dustproof” version. The direct auction descriptions identify Cal. 710. A single concentric-dial listing assigns Cal. 1210, an identification that remains unconfirmed because the listing has no readable movement photograph.

Catalogues date individual watches from about 1950 to the early 1960s. These dates belong to the listed examples; the published case numbers conflict with that sequence, and the reference’s production endpoints remain unknown.

Where it sits in the line

The 6082 belongs to the hand-wound Oyster Precision tier. Auction houses describe it as “Oyster,” “Oyster Precision” or “Shock-Resisting”; one black dial also reads “Dustproof.” The records attach these names and dial text to ref. 6082. Its manual movement separates it from the automatic Oyster Perpetual watches sold alongside it.

Production outline

The dated examples cluster in the 1950s. Christie’s describes a 6082 circa 1950. Antiquorum dates case 784516 to 1951, and Monaco Legend dates case 810693 to the same year. A Kibble Watches listing dates a concentric-dial example to circa 1952. Later catalogue dates include Sotheby’s circa 1960 and Antiquorum circa 1962.

The later estimates sit awkwardly against the case numbers. Sotheby’s dates case 696848 to circa 1960, while Antiquorum dates the higher-numbered case 721396 to circa 1962; both numbers are below cases dated 1951. A specialist listing also dates its photographed watch to circa 1960 but gives no case number. These records document catalogue estimates, not a settled serial sequence or production end date.

Movement notes

Antiquorum identifies Cal. 710 in its 1951 case 784516 and in case 721396, which it dates circa 1962. Monaco Legend also identifies Cal. 710 in its 1951 Dustproof example. The Vintage Rolex Field Manual pairs ref. 6082 with Cal. 710. Antiquorum reports 15 jewels for case 784516. Its 2021 Hong Kong listing and Monaco Legend’s entry give no jewel count. Christie’s describes a separate centre-seconds watch with a 17-jewel movement but gives no caliber.

The only located Cal. 1210 identification is a Kibble Watches listing for a concentric-dial 6082 dated circa 1952. With no readable movement photograph, that caliber remains unconfirmed for the listed watch; the available records give no basis for a changeover date.

Two catalogue records misstate the winding. Antiquorum’s 2021 description calls its 6082 self-winding, then identifies manual Cal. 710. Christie’s added a sale notice correcting its own self-winding heading for another 6082. The examples described here are manual-wind watches.

Dial map

Silver dials dominate the records, with different marker layouts. Antiquorum’s 1951 example has luminous gold triangles and dots with even Arabic numerals. A listing shows raised 12 and 6 numerals with triangular and dot markers; the seller attributes that dial to Stern Frères. Christie’s records a silvered dial with a honeycomb centre and gilt batons. The available records show these as examples, not dated stages.

Christie’s describes one subsidiary-seconds 6082 but explicitly calls its dial refinished, so it belongs outside the factory dial map. Another Christie’s record shows a honeycomb centre; a specialist listing describes a concentric dial. The available examples show these layouts without establishing their order.

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown notes

The catalogued steel cases measure 33–34 mm. Descriptions include smooth and concave bezels; Antiquorum’s 2021 example has a 10K gold bezel on a steel case. Auction descriptions identify screw-down Oyster casebacks. The listing photographs show a signed crown and the case flank; the crown’s service history is not given.

Crown descriptions differ by example. Antiquorum calls case 784516 a “Super-Oyster” crown, while Christie’s describes a separate 6082 with a screw-down crown. Both descriptions belong to their specific watches.

Bracelets, clasps, and packaging

Some catalogue records describe an Oyster bracelet with the watch. A specialist listing shows a 6082 on a Gay Frères rivet bracelet. The records provide no model-specific end-link or clasp-code map, and the pictured bracelet’s delivery status is unknown.

Special branches

Monaco Legend’s 1951 example has a black centre divided into four sections, a gilt outer ring and applied Arabic numerals; the dial reads Precision, Dustproof and Shock-Resisting. The catalogue identifies the watch as ref. 6082 with Cal. 710, so the documented distinction is its dial configuration.
