Rolex ref. 6094 is a hand-wound Oysterdate Precision with central seconds and a date at three. Auction catalogues show steel and 18K yellow-gold cases, several dial treatments and measured examples from 33 to 35 mm. Their production estimates range from circa 1950 to 1962, with a direct conflict among watches carrying case numbers in the 882,xxx range.

Where it sits in the line

The 6094 is a hand-wound member of Rolex’s Oysterdate Precision line. Antiquorum printed “6094/6294” for one steel watch; the combined catalogue label belongs to that lot and does not establish a factory sequence.

Production outline

Auction catalogues place individual 6094s between circa 1950 and 1962. Antiquorum dates case 780350 to circa 1950 and case 745061 to 1961. For case 744253, its 2010 lot 134 says 1961; the same house dates that case to 1951 when it reappears as lot 291 in 2012. The 88x,xxx cases also carry different estimates: Bonhams gives circa 1952 for 881574 and reports IV.52 inside its caseback, Christie’s gives circa 1954 for 882963, and Antiquorum dates 882812 to 1962. These are estimates for individual lots; they do not establish the factory production span. [Antiquorum, lot 530] [Antiquorum, lot 134 (2010)] [Antiquorum, lot 291] [Bonhams, lot 85] [Christie’s, lot 313] [Antiquorum, lot 138] [Antiquorum, lot 173]

The IV.52 mark dates the Bonhams caseback to the fourth quarter of 1952, consistent with its circa-1952 estimate for the watch. This component date anchors one example; the other lot estimates span a wider period.

Movement notes

Antiquorum identifies the 6094 movement as Cal. 740 in its 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2018 records, each with 17 jewels; its 2024 gold example also carries that caliber attribution. Christie’s describes a 17-jewel lever movement without a caliber number. Bonhams lists a 17-jewel manual movement by number. The reviewed lots describe hand-winding consistently, apart from one conflicting headline noted below.

Cal. 740 is a repeated auction attribution for the manual-wind 6094. The same number appears on the Movement page’s automatic Datejust ref. 4467 entry, with 26 jewels. Antiquorum’s 2018 6094 headline calls that watch “self-winding,” while its specification field lists Cal. 740. The records preserve this conflict; they do not establish whether the 6094 caliber number is correct.

Dial map

The catalogued watches show more than one dial treatment. Antiquorum’s 2012 steel example has a matte silver dial, luminous steel dart and triangular markers; its catalogue calls the date red. Christie’s 2007 example has a silvered matte dial with applied Arabic and baton numerals. Bonhams describes a black dial with a red date. Antiquorum’s 2024 gold example has a cream honeycomb dial and applied gold markers.

The catalogue term “red date” does not specify whether every numeral is red or the disc alternates red and black. The records reviewed here do not settle that distinction.

Case, bezel, crystal and crown

Auction catalogues describe tonneau-shaped or round Oyster cases with screw backs. The Antiquorum 2012 and 2024 photographs show smooth bezels. The listed diameters are 33 mm at Bonhams, generally 34 mm at Antiquorum and 35 mm at Christie’s. The records describe individual cases, with no dated construction sequence.

Christie’s calls its 2007 example’s crown a “Super-Oyster” crown. Antiquorum’s 2008 lot says its crown screws down; the 2012 lot specifies a screw-down caseback. Those descriptions differ, and none of the cited lots identifies the crystal material.

The 2024 gold example’s caseback is stamped 6094 and 750. Those marks are visible on the photographed component.

Bracelets, clasps and packaging

Antiquorum’s 2012 case 744253 is shown and catalogued on a steel Oyster bracelet. Its 2018 case 882812 is listed with a folded ref. 7835 bracelet. Bonhams describes its 2024 case 881574 with an associated black leather strap and buckle; the 2024 gold example is photographed on leather. These are sale configurations. Original delivery fitment and end-link numbers remain unverified.

Special branches

Antiquorum’s 2024 lot 173 documents a 34 mm 18K gold 6094 with a cream honeycomb dial and manual-wind Cal. 740. It is the only gold example among the six distinct watches represented in these seven lot records, so its frequency and original component pairing remain unknown.
