Rolex's archived product page specifies hand-wound Cal. 7040-3 and shows two dial choices: silver Godron Circulaire and a diamond-pavé version. The 2008 price list identifies an 18 ct white-gold case, sapphire crystal and transparent back.

Where it sits in the line

Rolex introduced the modern Cellini Prince in 2005. The 5441/9 sits alongside the yellow-gold 5440/8, Everose 5442/5 and white-gold 5443/9. Rolex still listed the 5441/9 in 2015; the available records leave its final sales year open.

Production outline

Rolex's 2008 Italian list and archived product page from 2014 show the 5441/9 as a current model. The 2015 price list still includes it. Together they establish a sales window, while leaving factory production endpoints open. Auction dates apply to individual watches: Christie's describes two separate cases as made in 2007, while Sotheby's dates another example to circa 2005.

Movement notes

Rolex identifies the movement as manually wound Cal. 7040-3, made by Rolex, chronometer-certified, fitted with Paraflex shock absorbers and rated for about 72 hours of power reserve. The Movements register lists the suffixes used across the Cellini Prince line. The movement's bridges repeat the dial's Godron Circulaire decoration.

Rolex's page, Christie's and Sotheby's identify Cal. 7040-3, while Antiquorum's 2008 catalogue calls case D758994 Cal. 7040-1. The available photograph of D758994 does not show a readable caliber engraving.

Dial map

The standard dial is silver-coloured with Godron Circulaire engine turning. Rolex describes the figure-eight layout with Roman numerals and baton markers on the upper hour-and-minute ring and a separate seconds register below. The second documented option keeps the silver Godron pattern in the centre and covers the outer dial with diamonds. Rolex's archived page shows both; Christie's sale records describe the standard silver dial.

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown

Rolex describes a rectangular 18 ct white-gold case, vertical relief between the lugs and a transparent caseback. Christie's and Sotheby's add curved sides and ribbed, hooded lugs. Rolex's 2008 price list specifies a sapphire crystal and transparent back.

Christie's records 42 mm in length; Sotheby's gives 44 mm in length and 27 mm in width. Their catalogues do not specify the measurement points.

Strap and clasp

Rolex lists a black alligator strap and white-gold butterfly clasp. Christie's describes a hidden clasp on its 2007 example; Sotheby's calls its 2010 example twin-folding. The records do not establish a clasp change during production.
