Rolex 126600 Sea-Dweller
Sea-Dweller › 126600
Rolex introduced the 43 mm Sea-Dweller 126600 in 2017, replacing the 40 mm 116600. The change brought calibre 3235 and a Cyclops date magnifier to the line; the black dial’s red “SEA-DWELLER” text recalls the red lettering on early 1665 examples. Rolex presented it for the Sea-Dweller’s 50th anniversary. The reference remains in the current catalogue.

Place in the line
The 126600 replaced the 40 mm 116600 in 2017. Its case grew to 43 mm, and the date gained a Cyclops for the first time on a Sea-Dweller sold to the public. Rolex kept the helium escape valve and 1,220 m rating.
Production outline
Rolex unveiled the 126600 at Baselworld in 2017 and continues to list it. Auction catalogues record guarantee cards dated from 2017 onward. These dates anchor individual sales; Rolex has not published production totals or exact factory start and end dates. The launch marked the Sea-Dweller’s 50th anniversary, and Rolex did not describe the 126600 as a numbered edition.
Movement notes
The 126600 uses calibre 3235, an automatic date movement with 31 jewels and an approximately 70-hour power reserve. Rolex lists its Chronergy escapement, blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, and specifies −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. The 3235 replaced calibre 3135 in the Sea-Dweller line with this reference.
Dial map
The standard dial is black, with applied luminous hour markers and a single red “SEA-DWELLER” line. Rolex’s 2017 launch photographs and a Phillips example with an August 2017 guarantee show “SWISS MADE” at 6 o’clock without a coronet between the words. Rolex’s current product image shows a coronet between them. Collectors call these “Mk I” and “Mk II” dials. In a Rolex Forums discussion, one participant places the coronet dial’s appearance in summer 2018; another says the no-coronet dial continued into 2019. The discussion does not settle when Rolex changed the dial, since a guarantee date records sale rather than manufacture.
Case, bezel, crystal, and crown
The Oystersteel case measures 43 mm. Rolex rates it to 1,220 m / 4,000 ft and fits a helium escape valve at 9 o’clock. The screw-down Triplock crown has a triple waterproofness system. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal covers the dial, with a Cyclops over the date.
The black Cerachrom insert has a unidirectional 60-minute scale. Rolex says the recessed graduations and numerals receive a platinum coating. The ceramic belongs to the bezel insert; the case is Oystersteel.
Bracelets, end links, clasps, and packaging
The reference uses a three-piece-link Oyster bracelet in Oystersteel and an Oysterlock safety clasp. The 2017 launch review describes both Glidelock, with tool-free fine adjustment, and a Fliplock diving extension. A Rolex Forums participant associates suffix 126600-0001 with the 26 mm Fliplock extension and 126600-0002 without it. Rolex’s current 126600-0002 specification lists Glidelock. This supports the suffix distinction as collector guidance, but does not establish every watch’s original bracelet or the factory changeover date. Check the bracelet and clasp separately from the head.
Boxes, tags, and papers appear in auction sets, but they are not unique to the reference. A guarantee card dates the recorded sale of that example; it does not prove the originality of its current bracelet or dial.
Special branches
The reference-level distinctions documented here are the dial printing at 6 o’clock and the bracelet extensions. Both are component variations within reference 126600.
Historical market and auction record
Phillips catalogued case 037293K4 as a circa-2017 126600 and recorded its Rolex guarantee date as 3 August 2017. Its photographs show an early dial without a coronet at 6 o’clock and a hang tag marked M126600-0001. The tag and photographed watch anchor that example; they do not establish how long that dial or bracelet configuration remained in production.
Christie’s catalogued case 61GY4787 as circa 2018 and recorded a guarantee dated 23 May 2018. Sotheby’s 2017 Hong Kong catalogue also includes a circa-2017 126600. Together, the dated lots place catalogued examples in 2017 and 2018; they give no production totals or factory endpoints.
