Pre-Daytona chronographs → 2057
The surviving records document one watch: case 12'271, catalogued by Phillips in 2018 and reoffered by FutureGrail in 2026. Phillips dates it circa 1938; the later sale transcription gives circa 1927. Photographs show its 18-carat yellow-gold cushion case, crown-integrated pusher and multi-scale dial. The conflicting estimates leave the reference's production span undetermined.

Where it sits in the line
Colin A. White lists the 2057 as a two-register monopusher with a cushion case. In a 2021 Phillips essay, Rolex specialist Pucci Papaleo groups refs. 2023 and 2057 among early medical chronographs from the latter part of the 1920s. Papaleo's date describes the reference group; Phillips dates case 12'271 circa 1938, while the 2026 sale transcription dates the same case circa 1927.
Production outline
Both sales concern case 12'271. Phillips identifies that number in its 2018 listing, and the inside-back photograph published with FutureGrail's 2026 sale record shows the same number. A 2023 Phillips catalogue for a separate ref. 2022, case 12043, refers back to the 2057 but prints its case number as 12'272. The 2018 record and 2026 caseback image show 12'271; the one-digit difference remains a catalogue discrepancy.
Phillips' 2018 circa-1938 estimate, the later circa-1927 transcription and Papaleo's group-level late-1920s placement leave the start and end dates open. The case-backed records document one watch, so they cannot establish a production sequence.
Movement notes
Phillips describes a manual movement without naming a caliber. The 2026 FutureGrail catalogue transcription calls it a 13-ligne Valjoux base by Reymond Frères, with 17 jewels. Its movement photograph shows the Rolex signature and jewel count; the caliber and maker are not legible. Thirteen lignes is a movement size. The Valjoux and Reymond Frères identification comes from the sale catalogue.
Dial map
Phillips describes a two-tone pulsometer dial with Breguet numerals. Its outer legend reads “Gradué pour 30 pulsations,” and the scale times 30 pulse beats. The 2026 catalogue transcription identifies the registers at nine and three as subsidiary seconds and a 30-minute counter. The sources document this dial layout; further variants have not surfaced in the records reviewed.

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown notes
Phillips records an 18-carat yellow-gold cushion case, 32 mm wide, with a single pusher built into the winding crown. It describes a Rolex France symbol on the outer back and a French hallmark on the caseband. The case-mark photograph shows the hallmark Phillips discusses. These marks document case 12'271; the available records do not establish the full range of case specifications for ref. 2057.

Bracelets, clasps, and packaging
Both catalogues list a leather strap. The 2026 transcription also lists a gilt-metal pin buckle. These details describe the watches as sold; the records do not establish original delivery.
Special branches
Doble Firma's 2025 article on ref. 4257 labels a photograph as a 2057. Its dial, hand positions, strap wear and crop match Phillips' 2018 front image of case 12'271. The image is a republication of the Phillips photograph, not a second watch.
