Production outline

The 1965 example has 1509 stamped between the lugs; its serial is masked as 1.3XX.XXX. The 1972 CPO listing is for a separate 1509/8 and shows no reference stamp. Neither listing sets the production endpoints.

Movement notes

Watch-Wiki, Time Connection, and Star Time list Cal. 1565 and 1575 for ref. 1509 or 1509/8. Rolex parts sheets for those calibers list Date components under refs. 1500, 1501, and 1503. No published movement photo ties either caliber to a 1509. See the movement guide.

Dial map

The 1965 photographs show a gold dial with applied baton markers. CD Peacock describes its 1972 dial as champagne.

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown notes

CD Peacock describes the 1509/8 bezel as engine-turned. A Rolex Forums chart and Luxury Bazaar's bezel guide call the pattern Greek Key; its credited photo appears to show the same inventory 2406 watch, based on its dial, hands, date, and bracelet. A 2014 Rolex Forums thread questions that name. The 1965 watch has closely spaced grooves.

Westphal's 2017 table lists acrylic Cyclop 117 for refs. 1509 and 1509/8. Time Connection and Star Time give crystal 25-117 for the 1509/8. CD Peacock lists sapphire on its 1972 watch but does not say whether the crystal was replaced. Time Connection and Star Time also list crown 24-530-8 and tube 24-5320 for the 1509/8.

Bracelets, end links, clasps, and packaging notes

The 1965 listing describes a gold Rolex band. In 2013, a Rolex Forums seller described a band stamped “from 65” and repaired near the clasp. The serial prefix and description match inventory 2406, so the forum sale likely concerns the same watch. The seller's “from 65” claim applies to the bracelet; it says nothing about the watch head. CD Peacock also lists an 18 ct gold bracelet on its 1509/8. Neither listing identifies the bracelet reference or end links, or establishes original delivery.
