Pink-gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6029, case 706020, with honeycomb dial and tile-link bracelet
Monaco Legend Auctions, lot 181: case 706020, catalogued as ref. 6029.

Antiquorum catalogues case 706020 as an 18K pink-gold Oyster Perpetual Officially Certified Chronometer, ref. 6029, and dates it to 1950. Monaco Legend later catalogued the same watch. Abell Watchmakers identifies case 685762 as a separate ref. 6029 and dates it to around 1951. These two dated examples do not establish the production span.

Where it sits

Antiquorum calls case 706020 an Oyster Perpetual Officially Certified Chronometer. Abell calls case 685762 a “Big Bubble Back,” while Monaco Legend calls case 706020 a “Super Oyster.” Perezcope's account of the 1953 Sesto Continente expedition discusses a Rolex letter using “Super Oyster,” but the letter names no references. These labels come from separate sources; the records do not establish an official model name for ref. 6029.

Production outline

Monaco Legend says ref. 6029 was introduced in the early 1950s. Antiquorum dates case 706020 to 1950; Abell dates case 685762 to circa 1951. Those are estimates for individual watches, not production endpoints.

Abell's page identifies case 685762 as ref. 6029. Its inner-cover photo shows “6029” and “18K 0.750”; a separate photo shows a Perpetual rotor, but no caliber number is readable.

An archived eBay listing preserved by EveryWatch shows an inner cover stamped “6029” and “0.750–18K,” plus a Perpetual rotor. The seller gives a serial prefix of 698xxx and describes a 36 mm, 18K rose-gold watch made circa 1948–49. The full serial and case number are unavailable, so this record cannot be tied to a distinct watch or used to set a production date. Its front photo shows triangular markers; the listing's pink-dial label conflicts with the image, and the dial's originality is unknown.

Movement notes

Antiquorum describes an automatic movement measuring 10½ lignes with 18 jewels; Monaco Legend gives the same size but no numbered caliber. A RolexForums model-to-caliber chart and DTK Watch Repair's reference list assign A.295 to 6029. Neither shows a 6029 movement or cites the basis for that entry. Abell's movement photo shows a Perpetual rotor, but no number can be read. The caliber remains unverified. See Movements.

Dial map

The documented case 706020 has a silvered honeycomb dial. Antiquorum records applied faceted pink-gold baton indexes and outer minute divisions; Monaco Legend adds black printing and alpha hands. Both catalogues describe the same watch. Together they establish one documented example of this dial treatment.

The EveryWatch archive shows a pale dial with triangular markers on a watch whose inside cover is stamped 6029. Its listing metadata calls the dial pink, while the photo appears silver or cream. The seller does not document the dial's originality, so this is a photographed configuration, not a confirmed production variant.

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown notes

Antiquorum describes case 706020 as tonneau-shaped, with a reeded bezel marked for the hours, a domed screw-down back, and a screw-down crown. It gives a 35 mm diameter and calls the construction two-body. Monaco Legend describes the same numbered case as 36 mm and three-body. The descriptions conflict, and the exterior photographs cannot resolve either point. Abell lists its separate case 685762 at 36 mm; its inner cover is stamped “6029” and “18K 0.750.”

Antiquorum calls case 706020 water-resistant and describes a domed glass; it gives no depth rating or glass material.

Bracelet and clasp notes

Antiquorum describes a pink-gold Rolex tile-link bracelet with a deployant clasp dated 1958. Its 1958 date applies to the bracelet clasp; the watch head is dated 1950. Antiquorum records the bracelet on this lot; factory delivery with the watch is unverified.
