Steel Oyster Perpetual ref. 6614, silver dial and riveted Oyster bracelet, case 439759
Case 439759, ref. 6614. Antiquorum’s 2011 catalogue dates it to 1959.

The 6614 is a 36 mm, time-only Oyster Perpetual that precedes the 1018. Records describe a stainless-steel case, smooth bezel and automatic Cal. 1030. Dated examples run from about 1957 to 1959; the production limits remain unknown. Strictly Vintage's 1018 comparison; Antiquorum, Hong Kong, 2011, lot 69

Where it sits in the line

The 6614 is the earlier 36 mm time-only Oyster Perpetual that leads into the 1018. Strictly Vintage compares the two at 36 mm across and 43 mm lug to lug, with the 6614's case described as thinner. Its dial has an applied Rolex name and coronet; the photographed examples have faceted baton markers rather than the Explorer numerals. The 1960–61 marketing material cited by Strictly Vintage places the 6614 in the transition to the 1018. It does not give factory production dates. Strictly Vintage

The Field Manual lists the 6614 as a full-size Oyster Perpetual with Cal. 1030 and a polished, smooth bezel. Its table gives no date range, exact dimension or dial description. The Vintage Rolex Field Manual

Production outline

A dealer listing dates a steel 311xxx example to about 1957. Hashtag Watch Co. and an EveryWatch mirror use the same serial range, so the three listings may describe one watch. Antiquorum dates case 439759 to 1959. Together they document late-1950s examples, but do not establish the reference's start or end. Dealer listing; Hashtag Watch Co.; EveryWatch listing; Antiquorum

A 2026 Blenheim lot dates its 6614 to around 1957 and gives serial 439***, which may overlap Antiquorum's 439759. Its 38 mm measurement is a lot-level outlier; the supported nominal size remains 36 mm. Blenheim Auctions, lot 22

Two auction descriptions assign the reference to 1946. Morton Subastas gives “1946 or 1959,” adds a date function and reports a 35 mm case. Locati calls a 35 mm watch a 1946 6614 and says its dial and hands are replacements. Both conflict with the dated 1950s examples and the documented time-only configuration; no checked source confirms a 1940s 6614. Morton Subastas; Locati

Movement notes

The Field Manual lists Cal. 1030; Antiquorum and SELECT each document it in a watch. Antiquorum records 25 jewels and adjustment for temperature and five positions. This confirms the fitment, but not every movement used during the run. The Vintage Rolex Field Manual; Antiquorum; SELECT Inc.

One WatchArtExchange listing names Cal. 1050, but supplies no readable movement photograph. It conflicts with the Field Manual and the inspected 1030 examples, so the 1050 attribution remains unverified. WatchArtExchange

Dial map

The silver examples have a three-hand layout and applied markers. Strictly Vintage describes elongated markers at 3, 6 and 9, longer batons at the other hours, an applied Rolex name and a compact coronet. The examined dial lacks “Superlative”; the 311xxx dealer example is also described without that wording. These records show individual watches, not every dial supplied. Strictly Vintage; Dealer listing

SELECT Inc. records another listing with a white pearlescent dial, dauphine hands, a blue-steel seconds hand and “O.C.C.” at six. The serial is not legible enough to connect this watch to the dated auction examples. Its photographs also show Cal. 1030 and an inside back marked 6614 and “I 59,” plus a 1970s Japanese Rolex service slip and receipt. SELECT Inc.

The 2025 Blenheim catalogue describes a 34 mm Cal. 1030 watch with a restored sky-blue dial; it gives no serial. It documents a restored example, not a factory sky-blue dial. The case measurement conflicts with the 36 mm records. Blenheim Auctions, 29 June 2025, lot 79

Blenheim's 2026 lot describes a brown honeycomb-textured dial as “tropical,” with serial 439*** and a Vacheron Constantin signed leather strap. The serial may overlap Antiquorum case 439759. The catalogue does not identify the dial's original color or establish that the brown finish left Rolex that way. Blenheim Auctions

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown notes

The Field Manual describes a polished, smooth bezel. Antiquorum describes case 439759 as a three-piece steel case with a screw-down back and crown; it measures 13 mm thick. Strictly Vintage gives 11 mm, and neither source explains the difference. Dealers describe acrylic crystals and screw-down crowns, but the records do not show whether either changed during production. The Vintage Rolex Field Manual; Antiquorum; Strictly Vintage; FireKids

Bracelets, end links, clasps, and packaging notes

Antiquorum's 1959 case 439759 was sold on a riveted steel Oyster bracelet. EveryWatch lists a 7206 rivet bracelet with 58 end links and a 20 mm width on a 6614 with a 311xxx serial; the dealer dates the bracelet to 1966. Two other listings in that serial range show a leather strap. They may show the same head at different sales; none says what bracelet it left Rolex wearing. Antiquorum; EveryWatch; Dealer listing; Hashtag Watch Co.

FireKids lists a 1959 6614 with a steel Jubilee bracelet; SELECT's sold watch has a Z.R.C. leather strap. These are individual sale configurations. The SELECT box and service papers belong to that watch, and no listing links either strap to factory delivery. FireKids; SELECT Inc.

Historical market and auction record

sale record what it establishes
Antiquorum, Hong Kong, 26 February 2011, lot 69 case 439759; sold for HKD 15,000 Catalogue date 1959, 36 mm steel case, Cal. 1030, silver baton dial and riveted Oyster bracelet.
Morton Subastas, 20 July 2022, lot 102 case number masked as 439XXXX Catalogue gives 35 mm, Cal. 1030, a date function and “circa 1946 or 1959”; internally conflicting attribution.
Blenheim Auctions, 29 June 2025, lot 79 ref. 6614 attribution; 34 mm; no serial published Catalogue calls the sky-blue dial restored and gives Cal. 1030; does not establish an original dial variant.
Locati, 5 November 2025, lot 220 ref. 6614 attribution, 35 mm Catalogue dates it to 1946 and identifies replacement dial and hands; not reliable evidence for an early 6614.
Blenheim Auctions, 27 September 2026, lot 22 serial 439***; sold for GBP 7,000 Catalogue calls it circa 1957 with Cal. 1030 and a brown honeycomb dial, but gives an outlying 38 mm measurement. The masked serial may overlap Antiquorum case 439759.

The 439xxx catalogues may repeat case 439759. Blenheim's 2025 lot has no serial, so it cannot be matched to those listings.
